Dow industrials up over 350 points in volatile session

U.S. stocks rose on Tuesday, in the latest move in a back-and-forth session that saw the major indexes fluctuate between solidly positive and modestly negative territory. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.2% while the S&P 500 was up 1% and the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 0.9%. One of the key movers of the day was Amazon Inc. which has been extremely volatile in the wake of President Donald Trump repeatedly criticizing the company. While it traded in negative territory throughout most of Tuesday‘s session, it last hit a session high gaining 2% on the day. Other closely watched technology and internet companies also jumped, with Netflix Inc. up 1.7% and Tesla Inc. gaining 7.4%. Also supporting the market was General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co. both of which gained more than 2% following their monthly sales data.
